I mean I can't login to both accounts at once as a Windows user could so why should I and other Linux users who happen to have 2 accounts be penalized? So I urge and request and hope for Steam to discuss this with Arc, to see if there is any way to reverse this decision to lock the Steam account to a specific Arc account. Well let's just say likely 95% of us changed a lot in the last 10 years way beyond email and operating systems. To do this within a few years of the game's existence is one thing, but to think we'd have stayed with windows and had the same email etc. Not that I want to start over but it sure seems this whole link-locking to a specific Arc account is poorly thought out and lacking consideration of Linux users who play STO through Steam's ProtonDB and deny use of other accounts that we may have made, as in my case, 10+ years ago when we were using Windows with direct install of Arc and STO. And there doesn't seem to be any way to start over with a whole new account from the STO launcher, especially when you can't get the one-time code to get passed the launcher. Recently I also found I had lost access to the email for the STO account associated with Steam and therefore can't get the code to play that account either. I tried numerous emulators but none seem to work right or their installer is too old. I can't install the desktop version of Arc as there isn't one for Linux. He has no use for the game without some friends to play it with, and I am the only one that wanted to play STO after our guild left SWTOR (Star Wars The Old Republic). He and I were going to buy lifetime memberships but decided against it when I couldn't play my Veteran Account. I quit playing the game entirely.Īnd then a few months ago a friend mentioned how they wish STO wouldn't be this way. I have a Veteran Arc account of 10+ years that I played STO on and used to work through Steam too that suddenly I couldn't use 2 years ago because the Launcher wouldn't let us change accounts (the button actually made the launcher freeze initially). So here I am 2 yearsish ago playing Star Trek Online using Steam Proton and it works well, and I have 2 accounts.Īnd shortly thereafter a specific Arc account, the one I essentially made through Steam by playing STO through Steam, became link-locked to Steam so that I can't play any other account including the account I played directly through Arc.
